We have an exciting opportunity for a SeniorDirector, Medical Affairs within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (ARDx) Division. This newly created opportunity is part of our Infectious Diseases Developed Markets (IDDM) Business Unit, within Research & Development function which consists of Research, Development, Project Management, Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, and Scientific Affairs. You will lead the Medical Affairs global function for the IDDM Business Unit and play a key role in contributing to the innovation road map and defining R&D pipeline for business growth and commercial success. As a strategic thought leader and expert in Infectious Diseases, you will assess emerging and/or unmet medical needs in the developed markets, provide rationales for new product introduction and on market product sustenance, evaluate opportunities for product improvements, innovative ideas and disruptive technologies. You will interact with functions such as Global Marketing, R&D, Clinical Affairs and Scientific Affairs with IDDM and ARDx and serve as the key medical & clinical representative of Abbott to external regulatory agencies and professional organizations.

Lead KOL advocacy efforts and manage Scientific Advisory Boards designed to secure feedback to shape our clinical & commercial strategies. You will provide guidance on designs for pre- and post-market clinical studies aimed to demonstrate value propositions through clinical and economic outcomes. You and your team will provide medical support for direct customer interactions as needed. This position is to be located either at San Diego, CA or Portland, ME and reports into the IDDM VP Research & Development. Relocation support is available.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build global Medicaland Scientific Affairs functional capacities and capabilities; broadennetwork with academic and industrial opinion leaders, implement new ITtools, align process and procedure within ARDx quality system to servebusiness compliantly, effectively and efficiently.

  • Work withGlobal Marketing, R&D and Clinical Affairs to assess emerging and/orunmet medical needs in the developed markets, provide rationales for newproduct introduction and on market product sustenance, evaluateopportunities for product improvements, innovative ideas and disruptivetechnologies.

  • Provideglobal strategic direction for completion of medical opinions, medicalplatform documents and/ or Health Hazard Assessment.

  • Reviewand approve medical input for promotional and commercial activities asrequested. Provide strategic direction for the performance of clinicalstudies related to product development and commercial/ marketingactivities.

  • Serveas the key medical representative of Abbott to external regulatoryagencies and professional organizations.

  • Providesmedical and scientific support for direct customer interactions as needed

  • Provide globalmedical guidance to country medical teams in developing country medicalplans aligned with global medical strategy. Review country Medical Affairsperformance in collaboration with other key stakeholders.

  • Leadmedical and scientific affairs team.

  • Mustcomply with and enforce all Office of Ethics and Compliance guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MDDegree with clinical experience including Infectious Diseases

  • Minimum8 years clinical experience and 5 years industry experience

  • Association within network ofacademic and industrial opinion leaders and clinical work in the field ofInfectious Diseases.

  • Knowledgeof regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics

  • Industry,product development and customer knowledge required.

  • Provenleader with passion and skills for strategic and critical thinking,problem solving, motivating and mentoring team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Globalmarket experience, specifically in developed markets regions

  • MBAdesirable

  • Extensivetraining and clinical experience in Infectious Diseases

  • HealthOutcomes Research/Reimbursement Experience
