Wolters Kluwer Lead Technology Product Manager - API Focus in Springfield, Illinois

We are searching for a Lead Product Manager. This role is remote and can be located in the US or Canada.

The Lead Product Line Manager (PLM) for our highly innovative Tax & Accounting Division is responsible for delivering all customer and shareholder outcomes for API marketplace, under the guidance of the VP Product Management, and in partnership with other functions within the business unit as well as at the corporate level. While each of the other functions in the business is individually accountable for delivering respective outcomes towards the overall success, this role will be accountable for delivering the business and customer outcomes for overall API marketplace. The Lead PLM will partner with the VP Product Management in setting a compelling vision and strategy and influencing the cross-functional teams to contribute effectively towards the execution of that strategy.

In addition, the Lead API Product Manager is responsible for driving the vision and a strong go-to-market strategy to monetize data by providing API solutions to our CCH Axcess customers, licensed integrators, and third-party partners.

The Lead API Product Manager will be responsible for defining and managing the end-to-end developer experience around APIs for the CCH Axcess platform. This includes providing direction to programs that help to enforce developer experience guidelines across the Tax, Audit, and Firm Management divisions of CCH Axcess. They will partner with internal and external customers to leverage APIs to enhance the end-to-end user experience, whether within the CCH Axcess user interface or coming from external tools. The API Product Manager will also partner with other global divisions of Wolters Kluwer to share best practices and learn where others have successfully implemented API solutions. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of product management experience, tax and accounting processes, and API development.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Delivers all customer and shareholder outcomes, near-term and long-term, for the API marketplace as it relates to the tax solution set, including revenues, sales, retention and net promoter score

  • Defines and delivers a strategically aligned, compelling partner and customer experience. Works cross-functionally to ensure alignment and delivery of requirements

  • Develops and maintains multi-year roadmaps for the API marketplace and ensures there is alignment with the tax solution set roadmap, including addition of new APIs and integration kits as necessary

  • Develops business cases to help prioritize investments within the API marketplace

  • Conducts market assessment and partner with other functions, including marketing, sales, business development, etc. to quantify market potential

  • Conducts partner assessments and makes recommendations to add new partners to the API marketplace

  • Spends time in field with customers and prospects to understand current and future needs to develop a deep understanding of customer workflows and how to enhance the API marketplace to deliver new product innovation concepts

  • Gathers and communicates market, competitor and customer insights, including via direct observation

  • Creates competitive responses, when appropriate

  • Establishes and manages business relationships with business partners

  • Develops pricing models for the API marketplace, including for all variations for different levels of service and data types

  • Defines target audiences for marketing messages, and associated value propositions for each audience group for the API marketplace

  • Works across the organization to ensure product, operational, customer and sales readiness prior to any release or change

  • Develops sophisticated tracking and reporting on performance for the API marketplace, and the underlying data usage

  • Analyzes performance of the API marketplace to identify and pursue opportunities to enhance customer and shareholder outcomes, will include standardized API metrics and KPIs across CCH Axcess platform

  • Works closely with product managers and development teams across Wolters Kluwer to identify and address gaps in driving API as a product strategy

  • Establishes a vision for how ease of programmability differentiates CCH Axcess from its competitors

  • Partners with internal development teams who consume private APIs to integrate business systems

Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Computer Science, Management, or related field from an accredited university, or equivalent experience

  • Graduate degree in a business-related field preferred, especially MBA


At least 5 years of combined experience which includes:

  • Experience leading product management of a complex product portfolio in B2B enterprise

  • Product management for software products or product management and software

  • Experience with API strategy
