The Service Manager is responsible for the successful management of the service department, and leading a team of approximately 35 employees. Responsibilities of the Service Manager include:

  • Manage the service department day-to-day operations according to corporate established goals

  • Hire, train, evaluate, discipline, and terminate personnel while keeping up-to-date records

  • Promote a safe work environment by communicating monthly Tool Talks and enforcing proper safety protocol

  • Cultivate both existing and potential customer relationships to stimulate company growth by providing excellent customer service and maintaining Customer Satisfaction Index ratings comparable to the manufacturer, zone, or branch average

  • Serve as a liaison with factory representatives and O.E.M’s.

  • Break down estimates into labor and parts before the job is started so that repair tech’s are aware of time allowances. Monitor the status of all jobs as they progress to maximize the tech’s efficiency and training opportunities

The qualifications for this position are:

  • College degree preferred with minimum 2 years’ experience in a truck repair facility

  • Ability to comprehend basic business mathematics and accounting

  • Professional attitude and appearance with a strong work ethic

  • Proven ability to manage and motivate personnel and effectively communicate to the public

  • Desire to set and attain goals while conducting business honestly and with integrity

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience preferably with an understanding of AS400


  • Supervise, manage, and direct the selection, training, development, appraisal, and work assignments of personnel.

  • Capable of working with nominal direction and broad communication.

  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical procedures.

  • The ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.

  • The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and to respond to common inquiries or complaints.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions using common sense and set guidelines. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.

  • Proficient computer skills including e-mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.

  • Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.

  • Identify measures or indicators of dealership performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the dealership.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Knowledge of materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing profits.

  • Identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
