YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago Regional Science and Art Instructors for Summer Camp in Palatine, Illinois
The YMCA is hiring multiple Regional S.T.E.A.M. Specialty Instructors in Chicago for multiple locations including Buehler YMCA and Palatine IL area
The Regional S.T.E.A.M. Specialty Instructor Provides leadership and planning of specialty STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) programs for different youth age groups. Supervises a group of youth and/or adults. Promotes a safe and positive environment for children, parents and staff.
Multiple regional openings in Palentine and surrounding areas
Scope of Responsibility:
Facilitates specialty camp programs in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA and aligned to provided curriculum. Modifies activities as needed to ensure cultural relevancy and developmental appropriateness.
Creates camp environments that support active learning with key elements to promote critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and communication.
Supervises a group of youth and/or adults to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each person.
Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with parents.
Provides day-to-day guidance to staff and volunteers.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
Provides assistance to supervisor and may fill-in during temporary absences.
Transports program equipment as needed between camp locations.
Maintains program equipment and notifies supervisor of equipment issues.
Additional duties as assigned.
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a high school diploma or equivalency; completion of higher education coursework or degrees strongly preferred, especially within the STEAM fields
Must have prior experience working with youth; previous experience in a camp setting strongly preferred
Must have access to personal transportation for travel between camp sites and transport of equipment
Previous experience facilitating STEAM youth programming
Commitment to, and passion for, the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s mission
Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor communication to multiple audiences
Passion for working with diverse youth and ability to provide a high-quality of instruction using age-appropriate practices. Ability to observe camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Child Abuse Prevention: Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
Completing all child abuse prevention training as required

Days and/or Times Needed: Full Time (Seasonal) position, Monday thru Friday, various hours
