The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). RTE is a master of the scrum masters, charged with clearing program level impediments and risks, finding and maintaining the right resources.

The RTE manages train ceremonies and processes, assisting the train in achieving their commitments by building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised, with an emphasis on problem-solving.

The RTE will facilitate the ART events, release planning, consistent processes improvement, driving ongoing efficiencies, issue and risk management, management escalation and working with other RTEs across Trains. RTE’s are accountable for ensuring transparency about the ART’s delivery, risks and accomplishments.

Required Qualifications

3 + years of experience as a RTE with consumer-facing digital products.

3+ years experience as a RTE with large scale development environment.

3+ years of experience as a RTE with Agile methodologies; Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

Certified SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) or RTE certification or Scrum Master certification

3+ years of experience using Agile best practices, i.e., burn-down charts, retrospective formats, defect management, user stories, ATDD, TDD, CI/CD, automated testing, etc.

3+ years of experience working in a large Agile organization using Scrum, XP, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or other scaling model

3+ years of experience with Agile collaboration tools such as Jira, CA Rally, Confluence/SharePoint, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Collaborative, excellent communication, holistic view and systems thinker

Servant Leader Must be able to lead without “Command and Control” leadership style

Proactive, problem-solving approach – someone who offers solutions not problems for others to solve

Collaborative style, with the ability to establish working relationships across the senior management team, business units, as well as with external advisors and constituents

Technical aptitude to support program’s use of work management and collaboration tools

Strong negotiation and influencing skills

Self-starters, problem solvers; comfortable jumping in as needed to support the Program

Reviews and absorbs data from multiple sources and uses that information to develop insights on program status

Willing to try new things, check and see if they worked, and then change and adapt

Helps to coach a transformation from waterfall to Agile



Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience
