What you’ll learn & achieve:
As a member of the Due Diligence team, the Civil Engineer is responsible for a wide range of duties to support primarily independent engineering and investor services and secondly to support owner’s engineering and project development services with focus on utility grade wind turbine and solar foundations design.
Responsibilities include structural and/or geotechnical investigation review, structural and/or geotechnical testing data processing, design calculations, construction monitoring, and operations assessments, including on-site field activities, and report preparation with focus on foundations. This position will be responsible for supporting multiple projects simultaneously with a demonstrated competence and depth in a broad range of structural and/or geotechnical engineering and construction concepts. Additionally, you will be responsible for:
Under the supervision of a senior civil engineer, conduct detailed technical review and independent assessment of civil engineering and construction documentation, including investigations, plans and specifications, designs, calculations, construction submittals, test documentation, construction job books and QA/QC documentation for utility grade wind turbine foundations.
Conduct on-site construction monitoring to assess compliance with plans and specifications, good construction practice, and adherence to QA/QC programs.
Prepare detailed reports of design reviews, project documentation assessments, and construction monitoring.
Track and monitor project documentation, review, inspection, and reporting status.
Work effectively with colleagues to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products while working collaboratively with other teams and business units as needed.
Participate in formal and informal departmental training activities to continue development of engineering knowledge base.
Attend regular departmental and team meetings;
Perform all other duties as may be assigned.
Participate in meetings and conference calls with lenders, investors, developers, contractors, and engineers regarding technical reviews and construction issues.
Assist in preparation of proposal language.
Participate as appropriate in relevant industry groups such as AWEA and engineering societies.
What makes you a great fit:
Minimum of a B.S. degree in civil engineering, with focus on structural or geotechnical engineering. Master’s degree is preferred.
The position generally requires 1+ years of applicable experience, but some years may be substituted by an advanced degree.
Experience with performing structural or geotechnical calculations for utility grade wind turbine and solar foundations is a plus.
Experience providing technical due diligence engineering services for renewable energy projects is a plus.
Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Basic knowledge of structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles used in the design of foundations with ability to independently grasp and articulate fundamental concepts.
Ability to perform basic structural and/or geotechnical foundation analysis and design calculation.
Familiar with US and international codes and standards used in civil engineering.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate highly complex engineering, construction, and operational issues to lay people.
Ability to monitor construction while assessing and communicating adherence to requirements and processes; and evaluating as-built conditions with respect to intended design and/or specifications.
Demonstrated ability to infer design and construction competence from review of various documentation, data, and visual inspection to make recommendations and position statements;
Fluent in Microsoft Office products. Experience with computer programs used in structural and geotechnical engineering such as SAFE, LPILE, SAP2000, Plaxis and Mathcad is a plus;
Self-starter with ability to schedule and prioritize tasks and commitments;
Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with clients;
