The Nurse Manager is a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) that practices within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practicing Act to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, individualized nursing care, based upon knowledge and experience, the nursing process and leadership skills. The RN incorporates the curative factors of human care and performs established procedures in accordance with the organizations and the nursing divisions policies, procedures, and standards of care.

The Nurse Manager supervises the clinical practice and patient care delivery and has 24 hour accountability, authority and responsibility of the operations of assigned units. Duties include management of human, fiscal and material resources and implementation of policies, procedures, standards and regulations.


1. Conforms to the established Standards of Behavior

2. Fosters an environment of accountability and holds staff accountable for their behavior and actions

3. Supervises clinical and technical aspects of nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards of Nursing Practice and within the limist of the Illinois Nursing Practicing Act

4. Developes and sustains an environment that supports excellence in clinical nursing practice and patient care through planning and implementation of care delivery and performance improvement programs that result in positive patient care outcomes

5. Exercise sound judgement when dealining with challenging and stressful situations

6. Establish and implement goals, objectives and performance standards for nursing units reflective of the strategic goals and objectives of the organization

7. Ensures that nursing care practice is based upon current practice standards and clinical guidance that are evidence based

8. Assumes leadership roles in interdisciplinary care planning and collaborative efforts focusing on individuals and populations served

9. Promotes practices in an environment that fosters two-way communication between those in leadership and those providing hands-on-care

10. Maintains accountability for daily staffing patterns and appropriate skill mix to support units acuity

11. Responsible for the budget evaluation for areas of responsibility in order to assure financial viability, smooth operations of assigned units and delivery of cost-effective quality patient care

12. Responsible for the selection, development and evaluiation of staff within areas of responsibility

13. Facilitate excellent service and professional development of staff and maintains staff competency and educational requirments

14. Maintain confidentiality

15. Other duties as assigned


- Registered Nurse (RN) License required – BSN preferred

- CPR certification required – ACLS, PALS, etc preferred

- Five years progressively responsible career advancement
