Position Summary: Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient.

GENERAL PATIENT CARE - Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes. TECHNICAL CARE - Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, changes dressings, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, obtains wound and throat cultures. EQUIPMENT - Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up. TRANSPORT - Assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices such as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures. COMMUNICATION - Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes. Other department specific duties as assigned.

Minimum Education: Required: High School Diploma. Minimum Experience: Required: Less than one year of previous job-related experience. Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Licensure/Certifications: Required: Certified Nurse Assistant; CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

n

Other: Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of

n

Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically

n

focused program. Individuals working as Patient Care Technicians at Loyola University Medical

n

Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient

n

Care Technicians roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training

n

program for the Patient Care Technician position.
