The Solutions Architect delivers value to the organization by creating blueprints that are generally complex reference architectures, often hybrid cloud solutions; these artifacts aid engineers and developers to solve a variety of business problems, by systematically integrating disparate digital systems, data stores, application and user interfaces, businesses processes, & workflows. Solution architect is a thought leader, who is also hands-on with a wide variety of digital tools and platforms, both legacy and modern; the solution architect is also expected to rapidly prototype to determine optimal digital solutions for business problems. (NOTE: This role can be 100% remote anywhere, or work from one of our corporate locations in Carrollton TX; Madison WI; or Milwaukee WI.)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Catalogs and maintains current and future state reference architectures for mission critical digital systems, data stores, applications, interfaces (APIs & GUIs), business processes, and workflows

  • Acts as a trusted partner and advisor for senior business leaders across the organization, meets with them on a regular basis to inquire and share architectural vision

  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise by socializing digital solutions to known and anticipated problems, by quantifying the efficiency gains in time, material value, and morale boost

  • Conducts root cause analysis of issues, identifies potential areas of improvements and / or efficiency gains, presents competing alternate solutions with cost benefit analysis

  • Leads projects by delivering solution artifacts that describes architecture both logical and the physical, in terms of systems lay of the land that guides planning and delivery of complex projects

  • Utilizes systems context diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams for the data exchanged between disparate systems, sequence diagrams to describe interactions and dependencies between the components of an interface, flowcharts for business processes and workflows

  • Incorporates security, sustainability, scalability, and supportability as the 4 pillars of solution, while safely removing barriers to accessibility and adoption of the solutions; also proactively discovers technical obstacles to all of the above and develops action plan to navigate and resolve the issues

  • Manages pipeline of projects and / or enhancements that align with the organizations’ vision and department’s strategic goals

  • Collaborates with engineers and architects across the specialties including Applications and Interfaces, Data & Analytics, Networks, Information Security and Access Provisioning, to gain deeper knowledge to keep the solution stacks current and competitive

  • Communicates with all the stake holders, both technology producers and consumers responsible for, delivery of use cases and design specifications, test cases and user acceptance criteria, continuous improvement, continuous integration and delivery of interfaces, to help ensure that projects are completed on-time and under budget.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of a variety of residential loan programs: Conventional, FHA, USDA, VA, etc., with an understanding of mortgage lending processes, procedures, and industry regulations; familiarity with the digital mortgage technology & systems landscape

  • Understanding of the functional design, and hybrid integrated architecture of systems, interfaces and tools that are mission critical for residential mortgage marketing and mortgage lending business

  • Demonstrable business acumen in documentation and publications showcasing the alignment of the organizational vision, and the goals of various lines of business across the organization

  • Articulate implications of technological advances such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud, and modern Data platforms, to mortgage business in terms of solutions architecture

  • Excellent soft skills, and communication skills, including technical documentation and presentation utilizing Web based and desktop media

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Engineering / Technology, Management of Information Systems, or a related STEM discipline with relevant work experience

  • At least 10+ years of experience in Information Technology that includes, Web & Mobile Applications, Integration Middleware, & Database Technologies including Relational Databases, Document Oriented Databases, Graph Databases, & Cache Databases

  • 7+ of hands-on coding experience (with one or more of the popular enterprise programming languages C#, C/C++, Java, Javascript, Python, SQL, Linux/Unix/Windows scripting) in a collaborative setting adhering to software development lifecycle, preferably in an agile fashion that lends to intervention and continuous improvement

  • 5+ years of experience in the mortgage industry or related financial services, including mortgage marketing and lead generation, mortgage financing, loan application processing, underwriting and closing processes

  • Preferably has TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) or other industry recognized professional certifications for Architecture professionals. Industry recognized cybersecurity certifications, or relevant education demonstrating a deep understanding of information security and privacy is a plus

Work Location, Hours of Operation:

  • This position is primarily a work from home position, unless within a reasonable commuting distance from a corporate location

  • Incumbent solutions architect is expected to maintain a home office environment without unnecessary distractions that would interfere with work

  • Fairway will provide necessary, standard issue equipment to set up your home office, including an ergonomic chair, desk, 2 monitors, business laptop, IP phone, wireless keyboard and mouse, external camera, speakers and VPN access to work in a clean room environment

  • Incumbent solutions architect is also expected to be residing in United States and maintaining a local address, and normal work schedule of 8am – 5pm, with exceptions pre-approved by the manger

  • When safe, travel within United States including, up to 3 overnights a week (not exceeding 10% of the time in a year) may be required for company sponsored business such as a visit to corporate offices and branches, and other company sponsored professional events
