We are looking for a Senior Paralegal . In this in-house paralegal position you will support a litigation attorney who manages outside counsel for our mutual holding company. You will also manage one direct report who is responsible for subpoenas, document requests, and other responsibilities.
Manage all litigation and pre-litigation as paralegal, and serve as primary support for Trustmark’s chief litigation attorney.
Investigate facts to assist with preparation of discovery responses and defense of actions.
Gather information to respond to bankruptcy adversary complaints.
For smaller dollar cases, serve as first point of contact for outside counsel.
Prepare all forecasting and law summary reports for business units.
Responsible for investigating and preparing defenses to rescinded discount demands.
Manage legal hold list and all preservation of documents and electronically stored information in connection with pre-litigation and litigation matters.
Supervise Law Department’s response to subpoenas, garnishments, levies, and legal inquiries from Customer Service department. Point of contact for payroll regarding employee wage deductions.
Research health benefits or health/life insurance-related federal and/or state laws, as requested.
Summarize findings and citations in user-friendly format, with input from manager or Compliance staff.
- Review or produce non-disclosure and data sharing agreements for all businesses (on behalf of internal lawyers).
Work in legislative and regulatory tracking software solution for purposes of streamlining review of proposed legislation and regulation affecting Trustmark’s operating divisions, which information is regularly used for reporting to the ELT;
Independently research and analyze pending legislation and regulations, as needed by Government Relations attorney
Manage company-wide intellectual property portfolio and maintain trademark docket.
Responsible for ensuring that all of the company’s trademarks are registered and maintained, including section renewals, and manage outside intellectual property counsel.
Initiate cease and desist letters to entities infringing on company trademarks.
First point of contact for business units regarding intellectual property management of service.
Management of Direct Report
Responsible for developing, coaching and training paralegal direct report in applicable responsibilities, including the following:
Administration of the data analytics software solution for purposes of tracking legal invoices and ensuring external compliance with Trustmark’s billing guidelines. Train all lawyers in the Legal Department on how to use the software. Resource for business units, i.e., questions on case studies, expenses, etc.
Incorporating, registering and withdrawing entities with the Secretary of State and Registered Agent.
Review of power of attorney documents and beneficiary change forms.
Other activities as needed.
Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certification from ABA approved program required
5+ years prior experience working as a paralegal in a law firm/corporate legal department required
Ability to work with minimal supervision required
Knowledge and experience with intellectual property portfolio management, particularly trademarks required
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel required
Experience using Pacer and WestlawNext required
Proficient use of online resources required
Must be detail-oriented required
Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities required
Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple assignments concurrently required
Ability to interact effectively as a team player required
Prior experience with benefits litigation, HIPAA privacy, general corporate law, general group/individual health and life insurance, and general knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes required
Strong research, analytical, written and interpersonal skills required
Strong time management skills required
Demonstrated ability to interact and influence senior business leaders required
Prior supervisory experience preferred
