GREAT DANE TRAILERS, KEWANEE, IL - FORK TRUCK MECHANIC

The Fork Truck Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that the facility-s material handling equipment (electric forklifts, electric carts and floor scrubbing equipment) is repaired and maintained in a timely manner.

Active participation in safety meetings. Maintains safety work practices as define by Great Dane.

Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to electronically and computer controlled automated equipment, utility equipment, facilities, etc.

Remove, repair and replace motors, pumps, drive unit and brake systems.

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Change tires.

Use welding equipment.

Complete daily work logs with detailed information on a timely basis.

Ensure that work orders and monthly PM-s are completed as required.

High School graduate or demonstrated equivalent.

3 years fork truck repair maintenance (with at least 2 of those years in electric forklift repair/maintenance).

Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

Excellent working knowledge of hand and power tools.

Ability to perform all types of repairs and preventive maintenance on various lift trucks.

Ability to safely and effectively use welding equipment and diagnostic/calibration equipment.

Must be able to work in a team environment.

2 year trade school preferred.

Must be able to respond immediately to down equipment.

Requires the ability to operate forklifts, power and hand material moving equipment.

Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and person to person.

Have the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

Have the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

Have the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

Have the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

Have the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

Have the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

Have the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant for shift.

Must wear steel-toed safety shoes, safety glasses and gloves

Coping with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud

There is a wide variety of duties. It is not assembly work where you stand and do the same thing every day and watch things go by you. People move around doing a lot of different jobs. You could be doing any or all of these jobs.

Some jobs may involve occasional lifting to 35 lbs. There-s a lot of bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, up and down ladders, crawling in and out of trailers.

Basic factory -hot in the summer, cold in the winter.

There is a 60-day probationary period. We look at that as a NO MISS time period. Once the probationary period is successfully met, conversion to full time employment with an increase of $1 will be given. After 90 days of full time employment the employee will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits packages. We are looking for people who will BE HERE EVERY DAY and BE ON TIME EVERY DAY.
