Riverside HealthCare 3ICU Unit Secretary/CNA in Kankakee, Illinois
The 3ICU Unit Secretary/Certified Nursing Assistant assists the nursing and medical staff by serving as receptionist, unit liaison, and secretary for the nursing unit as well as providing patient care. The US/CNA may perform selected nursing procedures as defined and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The US/CNA provides a support function to the nurse and other healthcare providers by coordinating special tasks and assisting where needed. The US/CNA collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care. This position serves as a liaison between the nursing unit, other hospital departments, physicians, visitors, patients, and families. The individual also provides secretary support when needed including directing visitors, answering phone calls, filing, and managing data entry.
PART III: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Ability to transfer patients within the hospital environment and assist with bed mobility.
Able to troubleshoot and maintain all office equipment and load paper. Sorts and distributes incoming mail. Orders supplies for the department including patient room phones and consistently strives to keep work areas neat, clean and clutter free.
Acts as a receptionist, sets a positive unit tone and uses good customer service skills. Follows all hospital and HIPPA rules.
Answers telephones efficiently and courteously documenting/relaying message to staff, physicians, families, etc. Assists with physician pages and notifies physicians of consults. Assists patient, family, staff, and physician inquiries or refers to appropriate source.
Assist with self scheduling and is flexible when necessary.
Assists with all codes as needed.
Efficiently handles work flow processes and paperwork including: - Distributing orders to pharmacy, dietary, radiology, etc. Schedules and obtains diagnosis testing results from dietary, lab, radiology, etc. - Assists in the admitting, discharge and transfer of patients ensuring accuracy of paperwork. -Thins charts as needed; copies/faxes charts as required and files information on patient chart. -Able to run required cardiac monitor strips and mount in appropriate charts. -Competent in performing order entry; results inquiry; and patient location, obtaining corresponding printouts when needed. -Document chartable activities in computer.
Follow and maintain isolation procedures, especially chemo precautions and radium implant precautions.
In working with patients: - Assist with all aspects of ADL's. - Take temperatures, pulse, respirations, B/P's, and measure and document I & O's. - Feed patients and give them between meal fluids and nourishments. - Answer call lights in a timely and courteous manner. - Utilize safety restraints and assistive devices appropriately. - Obtain and record patient weights: standing, bedscale, and wheelchair.
Must attend 50% of unit secretary meetings and must attend unit meetings as often as possible.
Performs downtime procedures.
Reports changes in patients' condition to the professional nurse. Follow the interdisciplinary plan of care developed by the professional nurse.
Restock supplies in patients' rooms. Make beds, occupied or unoccupied.
Experience/Education Requirements:High School diploma or its equivalent.Completion of certified nurse aid course.Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.Proficient on computers and efficient at data entry.
License or Certification Requirements:Current CNA certificate registered with the State of Illinois.CPR certification preferred.
