Commander, Navy Installations Assistant Club Manager in Great Lakes, Illinois

Summary This position is located in The Port O'Call, Food and Beverage Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. The incumbent in this position serves as an Assistant Club Manager of the Port O'Call located in Building 140 assisting the Club Manager in the overall management of the Club, emphasizing the supervision of the food service operation. Responsibilities Incumbent coordinates all phases of the food and beverage service on assigned shift. Incumbent focuses supervision on food service preparation, set-up and execution for the food court. Ensures that the food court is properly manned and operational, that all health and food safety regulations and requirements are enforced and followed and that food cost controls, portion controls and quality controls are maintained. Incumbent coordinates ordering, receipt and storage of all necessary food items and maintains proper inventor y par levels to ensure maximum food service production is achieved. Receives customer and employee suggestions relative to quality, quantity and/or preparation and service provided by employees. Using MWR SOP and Club procedures. Incumbent investigates and resolves problems and conflicts, and makes reports and recommendations to the Club Manager. This includes demonstrating customer service leadership through friendly service, flexibility and problem resolution. Incumbent is responsible for reviewing and maintaining all internal controls relating to the food service operation. He/She determines resolutions and recommendations and reports them to the Club Manager. Incumbent is specifically responsible for submitting a work schedule, work assignments and evaluations for food service employees by established deadlines to the Club Manager for final approval. Makes recommendations regarding employment, promotions and disciplinary actions for the food service employees. Incumbent assists the Club Manager in the continuous training for all food service employees as well as assisting in all other employee training. Incumbent actively assists the Club Manager in the management and supervision of thePort O'Callduring his/her shift. Assists with employee relations and supervision; opening and preparing the club for daily operation; scheduling; operational decision making; providing change to cashiers; securing storerooms and similar areas; securing the Club at closing time; overseeing food production and service; and general overall supervision of the food court, bars, game room and night club. Assists in preparing the monthly schedule of events and in the promotion and advertising of events and activities. In the absence of the Club Manager, incumbent ensures strict compliance with established internal controls. Incumbent will ensure that accountability over all funds, equipment and materials are properly maintained. Assists with inventories of food, liquor, supplies and assets. May conduct surprise cash audits; read cash registers; verify Daily Activity Reports (DARs); investigate shortages and discrepancies. Ensures receipts are properly recorded and deposited, and that required financial records/reports are prepared. Maintains oversight to ensure that proper procedures are used in the accomplishment of all functions. Incumbent trains and motivates all employees and deals with all aspects of employee relations on the shift. Responsible for subordinate employees' work schedu le s. Verifies all subordinate employees' time cards for accuracy and completeness, regarding hours worked, annual and sick leave, night differential, authorized overtime, etc. Assists in making recommendations for promotions, hiring, and discipline on all categories of employees. STANDARDS OF CONDUCT: SECNAYINST 5370.2H prescribes required standards of ethical conduct expected of all MWR employees. Incumbent has the responsibility to ensure that all MWR resources are protected against theft and abuse and are utilize d for official use only. Efficiency in the use of MWR resources is the watchword and will be adhered to accordingly. Incumbent will have full knowledge of policies and procedures to effectively open and secure the Pier 525 per command and departmental policies. In the event the Manager is absent, incumbent will maintain proper operation of thePort O'Callper all manuals , policies and guideli nes governing the Port O'Call Performs all other related duties as may be assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience, knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. A qualified candidate possess the following: Knowledge and experience of club management procedures and general business practices related to the operational management of food and beverage operations, social programs, and the effective utilization of club facilities and equipment as might be gained from college level courses in restaurant management and/or 3 - 5 years related progressive professional experience. Skills conducting surveys and audits to identify program deficiencies; detem1ining the impact of changes to the services provided the patron community and repairs to the facilities and equipment, or other corrective measures; and coordinating the scheduling or implementing of the work with other organizational activities. Knowledge of cost and control procedures and skill in the maintenance and control of expenditures to ensure limitations are observed. Knowledge of social and recreational program planning requirements and skill in developing recommendations and justifications for major modifications to the club activities . Knowledge of accounting procedures sufficient to follow individual funds from initiation through expenditure states in order to trace discrepancies in the system. Knowledge and understanding of the regulations and guides to interpret and apply them to a variety of accounting situations. Must be dependable and courteous, and possess the ability to effectively and harmoniously work with others. Education This position does not have a positive education requirement.
