Job Description
The Metallurgy Research Scientist will report to the Analytical Laboratories Manager within the ITW Innovation Center. This position will be responsible for conducting metallurgical sample preparation testing and results analysis and reporting. This role will be a subject matter expert with extensive experience in Metallurgical Science performing sample analysis to the highest standard providing timely, accurate, and comprehensive test results. We are seeking a Scientist that is skilled via written and verbal communication articulating to a broad range of constituents across all ITW businesses.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess an engineering degree, MS in Metallurgical Engineering or higher education is strongly preferred.
Minimum 3+ years of experience in production and research environments centered on metallurgy.

This position requires an aggressive, personable, goal/growth-orientated individual with hands-on metallurgical analysis experience
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAITS:
Knowledge of ferrous, non-ferrous, and special purpose materials
Heat Treatment analysis
Surface engineering including plating, surface modification processes, environmental protection issues, testing and characterizations of the coatings and thin films
Welding including ferrous and non-ferrous metals
Mechanical testing and evaluation including strength, ductility, fatigue
Surface engineering for wear and corrosion, and surface durability
Metallography and microstructure science and analysis techniques including SEM, EDS
Fractography, failure analysis, and prevention
Corrosion and prevention
Cold forming including drawing, cold heading, and deep drawing
Knowledge of tribology
