Job Description

The Global Category Manager for Converted Products is responsible for managing the sourcing and supply base strategy for this critical direct material category. The Category Manager will partner with Engineering and Operations to develop the supply strategies for our Woven Products, Converted Film, Molded Components, and Outsourced Strapping. These supply strategies must be aligned with the priorities and business strategies of the relevant units on a global basis. Additionally, this Category Manager will work with the regional procurement leaders in Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas to develop and execute global category strategies. The Category Manager will drive analytics to identify ways to minimize “total costs of ownership” while maximizing service; manage the relationships and performance with the strategic suppliers in these categories; and develop partnerships with those core firms that truly support SIG's needs.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • University degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline. An Engineering background is strongly preferred.

  • 5-10 years of experience in Procurement and Sourcing, preferably at companies with strong Strategic Sourcing disciplines.

  • Deep knowledge of the resin markets, both virgin and recycled, and the value chains for converted products (blown/cast films, injection molding, extrusion/ weaving, vacuum forming, etc.)

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize conflicting demands and communicate effectively to multiple stakeholders.

  • Expertise in contract negotiations, cost modeling, and value chain analysis.

  • Experience in multi-national, global operations preferred

  • Ability to travel internationally (up to 40%)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English fluency required; German, French, and Mandarin desired)

Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and other functional areas in each division/unit to develop and implement category strategies which deliver target performance levels at optimum overall costs.

  • Work across divisions/units to identify opportunities for synergy and manage program implementation

  • Investigate value chain concepts through benchmarking, seminars, and/or other research avenues.

  • Lead the development of RFQ's for various sub-segments, drive analytics and TCO comparisons, and coordinate implementation of results.

  • Engage Engineering with new product development activities to deliver target product costs; promote supplier engagement in driving innovation and design alternatives.

  • Develop and negotiate vendor contracts to drive performance, secure productivity commitments, and protect SIG against risks

  • Assist / guide the various SIG business units with systemic issues from the film/woven/molded suppliers via ABRs and supplier executive engagement.

  • Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, cost) and drive improvement activities.

Conduct quarterly business reviews with the core suppliers to ensure they are meeting SIG's outlined service requirements

Job Requirements

Experience/abilities:

  • 5-10 years of experience in Procurement and Sourcing, preferably at companies with strong Strategic Sourcing disciplines.

  • Deep knowledge of the steel and metals coatings markets and value chains.

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize conflicting demands and communicate effectively to multiple stakeholders.

  • Expertise in contract negotiations, cost modeling, and value chain analysis.

  • Experience in multi-national, global operations preferred.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Creative, open-minded, and flexible.

  • Leader – persuasive, tactful, purposeful but with empathy.

  • Business minded with focus on improving and simplifying processes.

  • Results driven.

Computer skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite required (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio)

  • ERP experience desired (Microsoft AX preferred)
