- Position Overview *
We are currently seeking a Surgical Abstractor for our Quality Improvement department located at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL. This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position and is benefits eligible. Hours will be scheduled Monday-Friday on the day shift (8:00am-4:30pm).
- Responsibilities *
In this role, you will:
Collect and submit reliable data to the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP)/(STS)
Review Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and surgical logs to abstract the defined clinical data elements and enter them into the ACS NSQIP/STS database
Support Highland Park Hospital with opening up the NSQIP database
Our ideal candidate will have:
RHIA or RHIT or LPN/LVN or RN with current IL licensure required
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in an inpatient or outpatient surgery department, clinical research, or coding and medical data abstraction
Clinical review and abstraction experience preferred
Clinical understanding obtained as part of educational and/or work experience
Ability to learn and utilize new software and web applications for data entry and report generation
Experience working with Microsoft Office
Database entry and/or management experience preferred
Ability to track down information through various sources such as EMR, coding/billing personnel, physician offices, and telephonic patient contact
Experience gathering information in a complex hospital environment
Ability to interact with all members of the surgical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner
