Human Factors Engineer

Leader in medical device manufacturing is looking for Human Factors Engineer in Deerfield, IL for a contract role expected to last 6 months, possible extension, possible temp to perm. Prefer candidates who have a minimum of 2 years of Human Factors experience (basically a strong foundation in Human Factors). Currently, we are only looking for local candidates.   • Apply human factors engineering principles to assess medical products while working with cross-functional program teams.

  • Develop Use Error Analysis (Use/Misuse FMEA or other equivalent documents) to conduct use-related risk analysis for products

  • Plan and execute human factors/usability studies (formative and summative) to test hardware, software, and disposable products.

  • Present and advise on human factors topics across the organization.


  • Proven experience in the effective implementation of HFE requirements/standards.

  • Proven experience in planning and conducting usability studies (formative/summative) and performing use-related risk analysis.

  • strong interpersonal and communication skills in written and verbal form.

  • Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied functions (Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.).

  • Demonstrated understanding of user centered design, heuristic evaluations, design of experiments, and qualitative data analysis.

  • Understanding of design requirements for development, validation, and verification of medical products.

  • Experience with operating in a regulated environment (e.g., FDA) with comprehension of implications for medical device and healthcare applications.

Experience and Background:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree (Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Industrial & Systems Engineering, UI/UX, HMI/HCI, or Psychology)

  • A minimum of 2 years of Human Factors experience (basically a strong foundation in Human Factors).

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Knowledge in FDA/IEC standards or medical device industry.
