Position Summary:

The Payroll Manager oversees the semi-monthly payroll processes for all US and Canada employees at Huron Consulting Group. The Payroll Manager will also oversee the local monthly International payrolls (India, UK, Switzerland and Singapore). This position combines people management with critical payroll execution. The position manages a team of 4-6, and reports to our Assistant Controller. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the management of the payroll function to ensure accurate, timely, and properly controlled payments to all employees.


Degree in accounting / finance, and a minimum of 10 years’ payroll processing experience.

  • Experience managing a team

  • Multi-state payroll processing and related understanding of federal and state tax regulations.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively within a fast-paced environment

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to work with and preserve confidential information.

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work closely with people

  • Understanding of basic accounting principles pertaining to maintenance of general ledger accounts and reconciliations.

  • Basic understanding of HR principles and various benefit programs (insurance plans, 401k and deferred compensation plans).

  • Understand how various compensation components affect the form W2.

  • Must be reliable, dependable and able to adapt to a changing environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Access skills

  • Workday Payroll experience preferred

  • Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred

  • Experience with international tax customs and payroll processing for continued international expansion a plus
