Position Highlights :

This position is responsible for supervising the cell culture, GC/MS, immunoblotting, data collection and analysis, ordering and book keeping of lab supplies, and lab cleaning. Additionally, this position will actively participate in the performance of tests and experiments. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision: Trains and oversees lab personnel, undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the proper handling of lab equipment and measurement tools

  2. Subject Testing: Prepares testing equipment for human performance analyses. Ensures that subject data are collected, processed, and reported accurately, completely, and in a timely fashion according to specified research or clinical protocols. Ensures that IRB approval is maintained for all protocols and oversees the informed consent process.

  3. Data Security: Stores data and patient folders according to guidelines established by Rush Security Officer and makes sure that health information is protected as stipulated under HIPAA rules are followed at all times.

  4. Safety: Makes sure proper safety procedures and IRB rules for subjects are followed at all times. Responsible for safety training of personnel and students regarding electrical equipment and other lab tools

  5. Quality: Performs regular quality control tests on equipment and materials used for research purposes. Schedules, oversees, and keeps records of maintenance and calibration procedures.

  6. Standardized testing: Creates, approves, and regularly reviews and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Makes sure lab personnel and students follow established procedures.

  7. Supplies: Orders or instructs personnel on the order and stocks supply

  8. Research: Discusses research objectives with laboratory director(s) and assists in the formulation and implementation of new ideas, testing procedures, and study protocols. Assist in the preparation of grant proposals, abstracts, manuscripts, and reports.

  9. Clinical testing: Coordinates or conducts clinical tests as requested. Works with physicians to develop or customize protocols and reports.

  10. Documentation and Compliance: In addition to IRB and HIPPA matters specified elsewhere, ensure that subject documentation, invoicing, and billing are conducted in accordance with relevant departmental and institutional policies and procedures (e.g. RUMC Research Compliance and Corporate Compliance) and those of any internal or external funding agencies or regulatory bodies.

  11. Continuing Education: Continues to improve technical and managerial skills by attending lectures and workshops, and visiting other laboratories. Participates in professional development activities offered by Rush.

Required Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree and five years' experience in a research laboratory and experience with human subjects or clinical populations.

  • Excellent written, computer, communication and organizational skills.

  • Multi-task oriented due to the diverse responsibilities of the position.

  • Ability towork under strict time constraints and deadlines.

  • Knowledge of cell biology.
