Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chica Sr. Director Business Operations-Operating Room and Anesthesia in Chicago, Illinois

As a procedural services business leader, collaborates with the Department of Anesthesia and LCPAA, the Department of Surgery and LCSF, and the Department of Nursing to implement and achieve the financial and clinical business goals and strategies which promote fiscally responsibility and optimal service delivery in Anesthesia and Procedural Services including Surgery, Pre/Post Surgery, Procedure Center and Operating Room, and PACU.

  1. Oversees the functions and operations of Surgical Services and Anesthesia, including responsibility for the operational and capital budgets and inclusive of ordering and purchasing of equipment and technologies.

  2. Provides direct and indirect supervision of Surgical Services and Anesthesia staff including: OR Informatics Coordinator, Anesthesia Informatics Coordinator, Anesthesia Technicians, Surgery Schedulers, OR Purchasing, and the Anesthesia Practice Leader.

  3. Develops monthly and ad hoc business analytics and decision support metrics that support Surgical Services and Anesthesia department strategic goals, projects and initiatives associated with strategy and expansion, cost containment, resource utilization, and operational improvements.

  4. Reviews monthly financial reports for accuracy and works with medical group and clinical leadership to develop tactics leading to resolution of identified actionable discrepancies.

  5. Actively monitors cost management in alignment with patient volumes and revenue generation. Partners with other departments to ensure financial sustainability.

  6. Ensures submission of accurate and timely patient charges and monitors revenue cycle integrity in collaboration with medical group leadership, hospital leadership, and financial leadership.

  7. Meets regularly with departmental and divisional management team to review reports on productivity, revenue, expenses and budget variances. Mentors managers and staff on issues of cost containment and revenue enhancement.

  8. Responsible for monthly department payments and direct operational account management of multiple cost centers.

  9. Oversees utilization of clinical, business analytics and decision support computer applications used in Surgical Services and Anesthesia to enable superior business performance. Collaborates closely with the IT department and Director of Clinical Operations to develop and implement new technology (i.e. Surgery Compass).

  10. Regularly collaborates with key leaders including Surgeon-in-Chief, Department Chairs, Vice Chair of Procedural Services, and nursing to lead and facilitate efficient operations.

  11. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

  12. Provides value analysis and supply chain management support, manages business and financial projects as assigned.

  13. Works with the OR clinical staff, identifies opportunities for new products to be brought in to the Operating Room.

  14. Coordinates with nursing staff on evaluations of products with staff and surgeons.

  15. Works with Purchasing, nursing staff and surgeons to provide information related to supply pricing and necessary vendor information for new products, as well as items acquired for one-time use.

  16. The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.

  17. Other job functions as assigned.

  18. Master’s degree required, MHSA, MBA required.

  19. Minimum of 5 years of experience in hospital operations and personnel management.

  20. Surgical Services and Anesthesia business management experience preferred.

  21. Demonstrated leadership abilities, exceptional communication skills – verbal and written.

  22. Strong analytical capabilities and financial/business acumen.

  23. Previous knowledge/experience with EMR and business systems preferred.

  24. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and requests.
