Role

The Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager will ensure compliance with industry guidelines, regulatory standards, and company requirements for new all innovation projects and current product offerings. The role will support the company?s innovation pipeline and is responsible for providing regulatory leadership and expertise on conventional food, beverages, and dietary supplement products. This role will be primarily responsible for ensuring Vital Proteins is compliant in nutritional and ingredient listing, label requirements, and finished product claims, and must have strong familiarity and execution of a wide array of product certifications. Reporting to the Director of Innovation, this role will operate out of Vital Proteins Corporate Headquarters in Chicago, IL, and work closely with Supply Chain, Education, General Counsel, Product Development, and Design.

What You Will Be Responsible For

INGREDIENT, LABEL, AND FINISHED PRODUCT COMPLIANCE

  • Leads Vital Proteins ingredient review process, including maintaining databases with key regulatory information and documentation on ingredients to ensure compliance

  • The role will support the company?s innovation pipeline and is responsible for providing regulatory leadership and expertise on conventional food, beverage, and dietary supplement products.

  • Ensures compliance of ingredients, recipes, labeling, and communication materials with industry guidelines, regulatory standards, and company requirements for all products and innovation projects

  • Accountable for understanding, interpreting, and communicating regulatory requirements to Product Development and key business partners

  • This role will be primarily responsible for managing a wide array of finished product certification compliance internally and externally with co-manufacturers to achieve desired claims per Marketing, Sales, and Innovation

  • Manages relationship and process with third parties to establish and substantiate claims such as GFCO, NSF, Informed-Sport, etc. maintaining compliance through raw materials, processing, and finished products

    TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP & EXTERNAL ENGAGEMENT

  • Deep understanding of business needs and external Regulatory environment (Americas, EU, Asia) to develop and drive necessary activities related to key topics important to Vital Proteins as a strategic partner for business stakeholders on key technical topics.

  • Proactively monitors and interprets existing and proposed regulations, conducts risk and opportunity assessments, and proposes clear recommendations to the business.

  • Serves as regulatory resource for external advocacy and works with suppliers and internal partners, including R&D, Legal, Supply Chain, etc. to address regulatory questions/issues.

    Who You Are

  • Bachelor?s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Food Safety, or Food Process Engineering is required

  • 8 years or more of experience in regulatory affairs at a dietary supplements, conventional food or beverage, company is required

  • Prior knowledge and experience with HACCP, GMPs, SQF, NSF/NSF Sport quality and food safety management systems

  • Works with a high level of independence, based on regulatory knowledge and experience, to make decisions and deploy best practices that assure global compliance of ingredients, mitigate regulatory risks, and maximize the company's freedom to operate.

  • Works internally and externally to reach consensus and ensure governance on policies, systems, standards, and business processes related to regulatory compliance that have a broad impact across the company.

  • International regulatory experience is a benefit

  • Experience with dietary supplements and ingredients is preferred

  • Must be able to draw on personal experience and apply your own judgment to reach firm decisions

  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced, team environment with minimal direct supervision and the ability to adhere to aggressive deadlines

  • A proven track record in thriving in a high pace and high change environment, with high-stress resistance

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

  • Must have the ability to read, write and understand English
