Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chica Respiratory Assistant in Chicago, Illinois

The assistant provides vital support services by ensuring availability of material resources through the stocking, assembly, maintenance, calibration (including quality assurance) of life support, diagnostic, and therapeutic devices. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients in regards to their growth and development process.

  1. Assures availability of all life support equipment and medical gas for department operation.

  2. Calibrates diagnostic and life support devices, e.g., ventilators, analyzers, and monitors.

  3. Troubleshoots and performs equipment repairs within department guidelines.

  4. Inventories and documents medical gases and equipment.

  5. Delivers emergency carts and boxes to patient care areas and ensures safety medical gases is handled safely.

  6. Assembles equipment in preparation for patient use.

  7. Processes equipment for cleaning/sterilization in accordance with the Hospitals infection control guidelines and stocks respiratory care equipment.

  8. Replaces and maintains equipment set-ups in assigned areas according to department guidelines.

  9. Assures charging of respiratory equipment and records the status for purpose of charging and medical records.

  10. Performs order entry/acknowledgment of department services for charging.

  11. Ensures appropriate functioning of equipment through rotation for preventative maintenance and repair.

  12. Sets up and maintains emergency standby equipment at patients bedside and/or designated areas.

  13. Assures availability and function of life support equipment and medical gases for daily operation.

  14. Performs routine servicing and documentation of all equipment ordered for patient use.

  15. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

  16. Position requires High school diploma, or equivalent. Previous work experience demonstrating dependability.

  17. Previous work experience demonstrating mechanical ability, and previous hospital experience preferred. Mechanical aptitude.

  18. Considerable eye-hand coordination, accurate touch in adjustment, calibration, repair and assembly of complicated and delicate respiratory equipment.

  19. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and to lift up to 20 kgs. Must possess color perception, near visual acuity and average hearing acuity. Must speak, understand, and write English.
