About the Unit

The Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology - MGCB - operates within the Division of Biological Sciences. Its faculty investigate molecular aspects of biological phenomena that operate on a cellular scale. The Department currently represents research on a wide range of biological problems and systems - its internationally recognized strengths include: invertebrate and vertebrate development, plant development and plant pathogen interactions, molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, cellular structure and function, and yeast genetics. The department administers the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate program in the Molecular Biosciences Graduate Training Program Cluster. The cluster combines five programs: Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB), Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB), Human Genetics (HG), Genetics, Genomics & Systems Biology (GGSB), and Development, Regeneration, and Stem Cell Biology (DRSB). MGCB also plays key roles in the undergraduate biology curricula at the University.

Job Information

Job Summary:

The Research Specialist 1 will assist with scientific projects in a molecular oncology research laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mammalian cell culture, immunoassays, molecular biology methods, and other standard approaches in cancer biology.
  • Perform experiments and conduct data analysis according to standard protocols with minimal supervision.
  • Compile results in to reports and presentations.
  • Assistance with routine maintenance of laboratory databases, inventory and equipment.

  • Knowledge of standard molecular biology research techniques.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and common data analysis software.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Additional Requirements​​

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted required.

Experience:

  • Prior laboratory work experience preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Laboratory environment, standard office environment/equipment
  • Ability to stand for up to 2 hours
  • Ability to sit for up to 2 hours
