Foley & Lardner LLP Professional Responsibility Counsel in Chicago, Illinois

The Professional Responsibility Counsel (“PRC”) is a staff lawyer who facilitates the firm's compliance with ethics and regulatory requirements. The PRC is a member of the administrative management team and is a practicing lawyer whose sole client is the firm. A successful candidate will have demonstrated understanding of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct; understanding of conflicts of interest rules, including the ability to identify conflicts and determine appropriate resolution; and strong legal research and writing skills with an ability to translate legal requirements into operational process.

  • Development of policies and processes that assist firm lawyers to comply with their ethical and regulatory requirements

  • Conflicts of interest analysis and resolution

  • Review of agreements with clients, including but not limited to engagement letters, conflict waivers, requests for proposal, and outside counsel guidelines

  • Work with the firm’s Conflicts Analysts and Conflicts Manager

  • Provide legal guidance to the firm's partners related to ethics and professional responsibility

  • Provide assistance with ethical and regulatory issues related to the firm’s Information Governance program

  • Responsible for alerting the Associate General Counsel to potential professional responsibility or compliance issues, undertaking research projects or special initiatives at the direction of the Associate General Counsel, and monitoring changes to the rules of professional conduct, as well as to various laws and regulations that relate to the emerging compliance requirements for lawyers and the firm

    • J.D. and current license to practice law in the state in which the employee is located
  • Minimum of two (2) years of legal practice

  • Regulatory compliance, contract review and Intellectual Property law experience preferred

Alternate Foley office locations may be considered based on business need and the candidate’s experience.
