We are seeking an experienced and highly motivatedfull-time Pharmacy Technician 3 Certified, Investigational Drug Services to join our innovative Outpatient Pharmacy - Professional Office Building at Rush University Medical Center !
General Summary :
The Pharmacy Technician 3 IDS (Investigational Drug Services), under a pharmacist's supervision, performs technical and clerical tasks associated with the preparation, labeling and dispensing of IDS medications including sterile IV and chemotherapy admixtures. In addition, performs tasks pertaining to pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of orders for drugs. Such medication orders are prepared up to the point of final checking and dispensing by registered pharmacists. Provides training for technicians. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Performs pharmaceutical distribution, manufacturing, and inventory control duties to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations as they apply to investigational studies.
Procures study drug(s) and materials from the research sponsor, drug wholesaler and/or manufacturer in a timely fashion.
Performs recordkeeping and filing tasks to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations as they apply to investigational drug studies and to ensure the expeditious retrieval of information so that department personnel can accomplish their responsibilities and maintains accurateinventory records.
Assists in productivity and activity monitoring within the IDS in order to help ensure the goals of the service are met.
Exercises professional communication skills in support of the efficient utilization of the Investigational Drug Service andassists pharmacists in coordinating, scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures, computer order entry, resulting in label and billing generation.
Serves as a principal departmental liaison with physician researchers, nurses, and hospital clients.
Assists with employee orientation and training of new employees to ensure thorough understanding of IDS policy and procedures.
Prepares and compounds sterile admixtures, including but not limited to antibiotics, chemotherapy, hydration, narcotic analgesics, using aseptic techniques and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
Completes batch and compounding records and other Pharmacy records as indicated.
Arrives at workstation and begins work in a timely fashion and attends designated department meetings as scheduled.
Works in a variety of systems, including but not limited to Vestigo, QS1/NRX, CPR+, and EPIC.
Performs within the framework of RUMC/HDM, L.L.C. policies and procedures.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician license required.
Valid PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) required.
Previous experience with IDS preferred, but not required if applicant has extensive pharmacy experience.
Experience in the aseptic preparation of large and small volume parenterals, parenteral nutrition, antibiotics and chemotherapy desirable.
Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use and aseptic technique.
Flexibility with work schedule and dependable in attendance and job performance
Excellent problem solving and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems.
Able to lift 30 pounds.
