JPMorgan Chase Middle Market Banking & Specialized Industries, Relationship Manager/Banker Associate in Chicago, Illinois

The Middle Market Financial Sponsors Group (MM FSG) is housed in the Commercial Middle Market. MM FSG Associates are expected to perform as a fully contributing member of the MM FSG team and will be exposed to a variety of industries and businesses. MM FSG Associates provide relationship and analytical support to senior team members in MM FSG calling on private equity firms. Additionally, Associates within MM FSG evaluate complex debt and investment banking transactions for private equity firms' portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities will Include:

Origination:

  • Provide Private Equity Group ("PEG") relationship management and analytical support to senior team members

  • Develop and prepare marketing materials and presentations

  • Conduct general research regarding PEGs, including fund raising, acquisition and divestiture activity, leverage multiples, valuation multiples, existing lender relationships, history of lender losses, evaluation of fund's current portfolio companies, credit culture, and fees paid historically

  • Perform ad hoc research, at the direction of MM FSG originators, on middle market financial sponsors and their investment portfolio to support ongoing calling and marketing efforts

  • Work with senior team members, build relationship plans for PEGs and determine positioning

  • Prioritize and monitor existing Middle Market Banking and Specialized Industries PEG-owned clients and high priority prospects to identify opportunities

Transaction Execution:

  • Development of financial models, debt capacity and scenario analyses used to pre-screen transactions

  • Preparation of pre-screen memos

  • Initial preparation of proposal letters and term sheets

  • Conduct high level industry analysis and due diligence

  • Prepare due diligence check lists

  • Process and execute confidentiality agreements

  • Provide ongoing support to MM FSG team members and Credit through transaction closing as required

  • Review credit documentation to assure consistency of terms across different transactions with the same PEG

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two to three years experience in Commercial Banking, Investment Banking or Capital Markets in a Financial Institution

  • Knowledge of debt capital markets including High Yield, Subordinated Debt, and Private Placement products is a plus

  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large amounts of information and help develop innovative client solutions

  • Ability to work as a team player, interacting with a variety of deal members within a financial firm

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior originators, private equity clients, and senior members of the firm

  • Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and meet time-sensitive deadlines

  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and marketing skills necessary

  • Security licenses 79, SIE and 63 (must obtain)
