The Manager, Publications & Medical Communications will manage the development of high-quality scientific publications and other assigned medical and scientific communications for assigned therapeutic areas/assets within established timelines to fulfill medical/scientific objectives. Manage the work of internal and external medical writers, and manage outsourcing budgets as well as internal resource assignments. Provide support and contributions to development and management of publication strategies and plans. Update tactical publication plans regularly, and communicate changes to key stakeholders in a timely matter. This role will regularly interact with internal and external key stakeholders on publication activities related to assigned compounds. Responsible for maintaining appropriate documentation and/or business systems utilized for assigned scientific publications and projects.
Provide day to day project management for scientific publication projects (i.e., clinical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and oral presentations) and other medical communication projects (i.e., medical slides, training documents, FAQs, etc.) within assigned therapeutic areas/assets, ensuring accuracy and adherence to agreed upon timelines.
As identified, supports the development of publication strategy(s), plan(s) and budget(s) for assigned project(s). Manage and track execution of assigned plan(s) or publication tactic(s), and manage associated publication project budget, informing Medical Communications leadership and key stakeholders of issues or deviations.
Provide direction and guidance to assigned medical writers and/or external partners regarding assigned projects, ensuring a high-quality and timely work product, and adherence to Xeris Publication Policy and Good Publication Practices.
Review manuscripts, abstracts, and poster/slide content for accuracy and scientific rigor as requested. Provide management with writing projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, high quality final outputs, and alignment with medical and scientific objectives.
Actively participate in, contribute to, and provide support for Publication Team meetings, Medical Communication and/or Medical Affairs meetings, including meeting preparation and presentations during meetings.
Maintain a solid understanding and up to date knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas and compounds, and apply this to assigned projects and initiatives.
Establish, maintain, and expand business relationships with staff from functional areas collaborating on publication and/or medical communication projects.
This role will regularly interact with key internal stakeholders, such as Medical Communications, Medical Affairs, Clinical, Regulatory, & Legal Teams, and external key stakeholders such as opinion leaders, investigators, authors, partners, and affiliates.
Communicate effectively across functional areas and within department to accomplish project objectives. Present information to appropriate individuals in a concise, clear, and objective manner.
Attend conferences, symposia or other meetings as needed, and act as liaison between Xeris Internal Teams and external content contributors.
Ensure publication planning/workflow files, tools, and systems are maintained, accurate, and adherent to relevant Xeris policies, SOPs, and compliance guidelines. Stay up to date and knowledgeable of publication and medical communications best practices, ethical considerations, and industry guidelines.
Bachelor’s Degree in scientific discipline required. Advanced degree, preferably in a scientific discipline, i.e. PhD, PharmD, Master’s Degree preferred.
Relevant professional certification/credential (i.e., CMPP, AMWA) is a plus.
2 years of medical/scientific publications or medical communications experience in the pharmaceutical/health care industry, academia, or related experience (i.e., medical communication agency, clinical/scientific research) required.
Medical Affairs or Medical Communications pharmaceutical industry fellowship or residency is a plus.
Knowledge of clinical/scientific publication structure, content, and quality. Knowledge of scientific publication regulations and best practices. Experience with pharmaceutical, biomedical, or scientific writing experience.
Working knowledge of statistical concepts and techniques required. Ability to understand and interpret clinical data and strategic concepts.
Microsoft Office and Internet navigation proficiencies essential.

Position may require periodic evening and weekend work, as necessary to fulfill obligations. Periodic overnight travel.
