WhatsApp is seeking a highly motivated, talented and experienced attorney to join its privacy team and advise the company on a range of privacy, data protection, regulatory, and privacy compliance-related issues and initiatives. The role is a great opportunity for any candidate who is keen to tackle some of today’s toughest and important legal challenges in this cutting-edge area of law. You must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs. In addition, you must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, growing, exciting environment. This role will focus on providing WhatsApp, the world's fastest growing communication service, with strategic and tactical legal counseling on privacy issues, with a focus on implementation of new global privacy laws and privacy compliance issues. This role will involve collaborating closely with internal legal, product, engineering, operations, and business teams. The ideal candidate will have experience advising on state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR and other global privacy laws (existing and new), and other privacy regulatory compliance matters. We are seeking a candidate who has experience advising on cutting-edge products, has strong judgment, communication skills, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies.
Apply subject matter expertise in areas of privacy, data protection and security laws (including state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR and other global privacy laws) and provide the broader business with legal advice on the same
Monitor and respond to developments in data privacy and information security (new laws, regulations, important judgements and regulatory guidance)
Work closely with other legal and non-legal teams to implement applicable new global privacy laws and regulations
Manage internal privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under those programs
Help guide privacy-forward product development and evaluate the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions
Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders across Facebook's business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments
Develop regulatory strategy with global privacy regulators in connection with new product features and initiatives and maintain Facebook’s ongoing privacy-by-design processes
Help to develop and conduct general and role-specific privacy trainings across Facebook
J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience
Experience advising on privacy, regulatory and/or privacy compliance matters
Business judgment and client counseling experience
Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media and Internet companies
In-house experience as applicable, in litigation, regulatory, or product counseling
Project management experience on complex legal projects and strong communication and presentation skills
Experience leading and advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
