Harvard Maintenance Inc Central Region HR Director in Chicago, Illinois

Position Objective

Based Downtown Chicago, IL, this newly created position reports directly to Harvard’s CHRO and will play a critical role in realizing the vision and growth plans for the company. The HR Director Central Region is a business partner to the EVP for Harvard’s Central Region and is accountable for providing strategic input into all HR programs, plans and processes and for implementing and managing and HR programs, plans and processes to ensure alignment across the region. The incumbent is a key player on a national HR leadership team, contributing to HR strategy and building a high-performing team. The right person can toggle between focusing on the necessary tactical work today and ensuring that we are building for the future.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accountable for aligning planning and delivery HR programs with Operations / Field and managing implementation across the Midwest, including IL, WI, MI, OH, TN, KY.

  • Accountable for implementing and managing end-to-end HR processes that ensure the consistent delivery of HR services and results regionally

  • Build and maintain relationships with key business leaders internally and externally

  • Partner with General Counsel labor relations

  • Contribute to the development and management of Harvard’s talent programs, including performance management, development, training and succession planning

  • Manage team of regional HR team to ensure a high level of service, creativity, and results

  • Partner with HR centers of expertise (COE) to assesses regional labor market conditions to ensure most current and applicable data is available to inform HR decision-making and program/process design

  • Create regional HR strategies and specific objectives consistent with long-term HR strategy

  • Develop and manage regional HR budget, policies, procedures as part of the HR leadership team

  • Ensure all regional HR activities are consistent with organization's policies and standards

  • Contribute to the development and management of the regional HR dashboard consistent with Corporate HR dashboard

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal employment law and regulations

  • Other Human Resources related duties

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • (10+) years of recent experience with fast-paced environment for large private company handling multiple locations

  • Experienced in delivering quality HR services to an hourly, distributed workforce

  • Strong HR generalist and business partner skill sets

  • Demonstrated organizational savvy operating in a matrix structure

  • Experience in a union / CBA environment and dealing with all aspects of labor relations

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

  • Track record for developing talent, within the HR organization and business leaders

  • Experience in developing, implementing and managing end-to-end HR processes

  • Competency to multitask, and meet assisted goals within set timeframe

  • Creativity, driven, and a self-starter

  • Comfortable with metrics-based management

  • Talent to work efficiently with minimal supervision

  • Strong leadership and effective communication skills

  • Progressive proficiency in MS Office Suite

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Hold professional conversations with clients, subordinates, and colleagues

  • Operate all basic office technology

  • Ability to conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups at all professional levels

  • Work in close proximity to others
