Position Overview
The Distribution Center Assistant Manager is responsible for leading the daily activities of the Distribution Center, including labor scheduling, supervision, and accurate utilization of space, equipment and manpower.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and direct programs to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations of the facility.
Plan and schedule all distribution center services including receiving, storing, shipping, handling, returned/damaged goods, and if applicable assembly of finished goods, maintenance, and administrative activities to ensure customer requirements are met in an efficient manner.
Plan long-range labor needs based on sales forecasts and input from Division management.
Make recommendations to senior management on programs to improve operations.
Develop procedures for efficient operation and utilization of all DC equipment.
Manager the safety and working condition of all equipment
Adjust the quantity and type of equipment to meet business needs to minimize costs.
Develop, implement and direct for safety programs for all personnel, equipment and property.
Provide safety instructions to personnel as needed.
Assure compliance with OSHA and MSDS regulations.
Ensure current and accurate inventory control of each product line in the DC.
Execute root cause analysis for variances and implement balanced countermeasures.
Own the cycle count program according to Corporate guidelines.
Assure the customer orders are picked and shipped in a timely fashion within prescribed cost levels and processed accurately in compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act for proper accountability.
Develop and implement an effective receiving operation that minimizes cost and ensures receiving paperwork is processed accurately and promptly.
Skills and Experience
Minimum of 8 years' of distribution experience in warehouse, shipping and receiving processes, procedures and systems.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Warehouse Management System experience; SAP preferred but not required
Passion for Continuous Improvement with experience in Change Management.
Solid understanding of industrial equipment operation, picking, packing, and receiving put-away methodologies.
Project management or material handling experience required.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or 5S a plus.
Travel required (less than 10%)
